How can restore a solid wood painted desk back to it's original dark wood color?

It was once a dark walnut colored wood and now it's been painted thickly dark green. I just want it back the way it was. Is there a product or should I just sand it?How can restore a solid wood painted desk back to it's original dark wood color?
Yes you can restore it!!! It can be very messy though. You need to get a stripping chemical called ZIP STRIP. WEAR RUBBER GLOVES when you use this product. once that you strip the desk you then need to patiently sand it. It's a labor of love. How can restore a solid wood painted desk back to it's original dark wood color?
paint stripper is a better option than sandpaper you will be able to get chemical free paint stripper for wood and then get you're self some oil any will do personally i use sunflower oil it is very good
I'm with Ray and James.
clean it

apply some stain

so you will have to re-paint it!
Naval Jelly stripper. Wipe it on, wipe it off. Wear gloves. Then....use a tung or linseed oil. Did this on an old desk i have and it looks fantasic! and for goodness sakes, DONT sand it!
