I have a wood back porch and would like to paint a design on it. Can you give me an idea on how to keep up?

there are really good wood stains out there that are colored. Greens, blues, real reds... Not just that ugly stuff that every one else has... try that and then put a HIGH QUALITY top coat/sealer over it.
