If its never been painted It may take more paint than normal.I always figure 2 gallons for every 50 ft.But I paint house's that are taller than 6 ft.If its never been painted it will soak up the paint.Stains will go a little further. I would go to the paint store and buy 5 gallons at the start and go back if you need another gallon or 2.If you use a brown oil base you can add 1 quart of paint thinner to every gallon of paint. This will make it go further. How much paint would I need to paint or stain a wood fence that is about 6ft tall and 175ft long?
Figure on 3 gallons per coat per side. You've got approx. 1,050 s.f. of fence. Most paints/stains indicate 400-450 s.f./gallon. You'll be into the third gallon for every coat. If you're spraying, you'll be well into or beyond 3 gallons per coat per side.
Each gallon covers aprox 400 sq feet You have 1050.0 sq. ft on each side so you will need 3 gallons per side.
a lot. go to the paint store and they would do all the math for you.
