How to paint over wood paneling?

I need to know how to paint over wood paneling in my house. How to paint over wood paneling?
Well, depending on the color, you'll either have to get it tinted or just go with a standard white.

Try to stay away from 'super white' because it's being taken out of the Sico (paint) product line.

I'd suggest going with Sico paint, because in general it's a good brand (not to expensive, but good quality) and I know a bit about it :P

Alright. First of all, you want to choose what kind of paint you're going to use. And as I'm suggesting Sico, I'll tell you a product I'd suggest from their product line. You're going to want to go with a Latex paint, not Alkyd (oil) UNLESS you've already got an oil base underneath it. If you use a latex over a oil, or vise versa, you'll have difficulty getting it to stick, so go with whatever's already there. Generally though, latex is the most common, so I'll assume that that's what you've already got on there. Of course, you'll be using an Indoor product, because it's wooden paneling.

Now you've got to choose if you want a flat, semi, or glossed finish. If you're looking for something with a bit of a gloss, you could try ';Chamois'; which is repellant to fingerprints, and has a 'soft gloss'. (Close to semi).

If you're looking for something with a flat finish (no gloss) I'd say you should go with ';Cashmere';. It's also got the washability and fingerprint repellant features as Chamois.

If you want something with a gloss (highest gloss of the product line) I'd suggest Sico Chantung. It's a silky gloss with a low sheen, and it's a very good product, as well as the other two.

So now, you just need to tell the people whom you're buying the paint from what kind of paint you want. I've been using Sico as an example because it's what I'm most familiar with / it's a very good product with an average cost, but honestly, any paint will work, and as with any other product, usually the more you pay the better quality you will get in the end.

So, when you go to buy your paint, here is what you need to ask for.

- Indoor paint.

- What kind of paint (Latex / Oil ) base.

- What gloss of paint (Flat / Semigloss / Gloss)

- Something that's durable and washable and fingerprint resistant.

- Something within your price range.

- A brush or roller that's suitable and designed for the type of painting that you're doing.

Good luck with it =] as long as you outline those points to the person whos' helping you pick out the paint, you'll get exactly what you want! =DHow to paint over wood paneling?
The first thing you need to do is paint a layer of Kilz. This will enable you to paint over the paneling. My parents did this in one of their

houses and it looked so good and made the room look so much larger

because of the lighter color. If you are not sure how to go about this,

go to Lowe's or Home Depot and they will help you.
Behind that wood paneling is drywall...Painting over wood paneling is not appealing.

If you pop off the paneling you'll have the glue that held it, and the drywall. Sand down the glue, slap on some primer and begin painting.
you will need a high quality primer to stick to the paneling. Kilz comes to mind but you may need something better.. Go to your local paint supply store and they will be able to help you
painting wood paneling never really looks good....

if you do, put on two coats of primer, and two coats of paint....
