How to paint part wood kitchens cabinets?

The best thing to do would be to wash with TSP, then rinse down, then sand it down with fine sandpaper, then wipe it all off. This is so that the new paint will adhere very well. If you don't have the time/desire to do this, use a *very good* primer, one designed especially for hard-to-paint surfaces (Kilz is a very good brand).

Be aware, however, that at the handles and edges, where your fingernails are likely going to scratch the surface the most, your paint will eventually come off, so you will have to do touch-ups probably every 2 years or so.

Do everything that Woodtick suggested, but use a paint brush and not a roller so you won't have that orange peel look on your cabinets. Ideally, spraying the paint on is the best, but not many people know how to do that professionally. We just painted ours with a brush and they came out very nice. Clean it with TSP, prime, then 2 coats of a semi-gloss or satin enamel. Hope this helps.
