I want to paint the walls in my bedroom and they are made of wood paneling. They have a glossy finish to them and I was just wondering if it was possible to paint directly on it ,if the paint would stick, or do I need to treat the wood with something first. How to paint wood paneling?
OK Lisen to me ok, ive been painting houses over 30 years step by step plus iam an artist on faux finishing too, and marble go get some knox gloss, 120 grit sand paper 1st knox gloss with a rag than than sand with sand paper get some oil pigment interior primer. See if you can find some KITZ runs around $10.00 plus tax a gallon, now to paint paneling you have to prime 2 times to cover the stain wood. Now without me telling you you know not to have kids around this primer see if you can find a babysitter ok, and put down some drop clothes if you do not have any a rubber back curtain will do.cut the top in and corners 1st leave off the bottom for now, after you have cut that in take a paint roller and roll the center down to the base board, still dont paint the bottom what i just told you do twice, than cut in the bottom twice. You can repaint in around and hour but do the ok, let it set over night to cure on paneling. When you do the finish coat details different use latax now cut in top and corners and bottom do one wall at a time cutting and rolling, the deeper the color the more coats it will take because dark colors have to use a clear base paint to mix try to use an eggshell finish paint so you can wash with a rag if it gets dirty. There you go easy steps enjoy your room, If you only can get one coat of kitz a day put your brush and roller in water get a throw away brush and roller because the paint thinner cost to much for just a one time project. GOOD LUCKHow to paint wood paneling?
Steel wool to dull finish and then paint, you don't need a primer but it will give you better color coverage if you do.
A good cleaning. Dry well. Use a super good primer. Paint the color of your choice! WHALLA!!!!
put a primer on first and then it will paint beautifully.
wash the walls first...then use primer...then paint
Any gloss needs to be scuff sanded first, otherwise no primer or paint will stick to it. After sanding and wiping ALL dust off the paneling, go ahead with primer and paint.
